Marine Engine Diagnostics Overview
Marine Engine Diagnostics involves analyzing an engine’s built-in computer system by connecting to the Electronic Control Module (ECM). We use specialized computers and software equipped with unique adapters tailored to each engine manufacturer, allowing us to access valuable historical data about the engine. By interfacing with the ECM, we can uncover crucial details about potential purchases, including actual engine hours, RPM run history, current and past fault codes.
Engine diagnostics are essential for providing a comprehensive understanding of an engine’s history, helping customers make informed decisions before purchasing a vessel. For inboard-powered boats, our advanced software can even record engine performance during sea trials, allowing us to verify the accuracy of helm gauges and obtain precise performance data.
Outboard Engine Diagnostics
Sun Coast Marine Surveying now offers engine diagnostics for all outboard engines and jet skis. Our diagnostics software connects to the engine’s electronic control module to verify engine hours, RPM run history, fault codes, and in some cases, service history. This service aids buyers in making informed decisions when purchasing vessels with outboards or jet skis. Note that this diagnostic service is an optional add-on to our marine survey.
